Gallery: Only Skin Deep

Introduction
This show is the culmination of a partnership between Youth in Focus and the Seattle Art Museum, in which Youth in Focus students study and respond to the work in Only Skin Deep. Only Skin Deep is a comprehensive exploration of the ways in which race and identity have been portrayed historically through photography. The goal of the exhibit is to broaden understandings of race and to identify the ways that pictures create and circulate ideas about identity and culture.

"With this class, our most advanced students have immersed themselves in the questions the Only Skin Deep exhibit raises and created a powerful body of work," says Youth in Focus teacher Laura Wright. "The class was filled with discussion on how we perceive race and how that impacts our identities and the art we create." >>
