Position Announcement: Operations Assistant

Start Date:  August 20, 2007

The mission of Youth in Focus is to empower urban teens, through photography, to experience their world in new ways and make positive changes in their lives.  Youth in Focus is a nationally recognized arts mentoring program that offers a variety of free fine art photography classes, service learning opportunities and pre-employment training projects for youth ages 13-19.  Over 70% of our students are young people of color, with the majority coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Operations Assistant will help Youth in focus achieve its mission by providing critical administrative support to students, staff and the board of directors. Full-time position. Salary DOE with range $25-30,000.  Paid vacation, health, and dental benefits, flex time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage program functions – manage student applicants, general office duties
• Support fundraising functions – assist with grantwriting, auction, donor thanks, etc.
• Facilitate effective communications, including database management

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience working with diverse youth
• Commitment to the mission of Youth in Focus and to social justice work
• Experience with MS Office; Ebase, Photoshop/Mac experience also desirable
• Excellent organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple demands
• Great people skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences
• Grantwriting experience and/or excellent writing and research skills
• Special event experience
• One or two years of nonprofit employment experience
• Photography skills highly desirable

Education:
AA or BA degree or equivalent life experience
