Things are Weird but We Still Make Art

Let’s go ahead and acknowledge the fact that things are REALLY strange right now. Nothing is quite right, it’s all a little awkward, and the highlight of the week is standing in line at the grocery store. Deep breath in…deep breath out. Things are weird.

Something I am reminding myself of is that this is temporary. We’ll be able to get back in the darkroom or practice with our bands or join an in-person critique again soon. Until then, and to get to that end quicker, we’re spending our time trying to find creative solutions to our current problem by meeting in the virtual space. Zoom and Hangouts aren’t quite the same thing as building community in person but it’s important that we don’t get hung up on imperfect solutions. I feel really lucky to have all of these tools at my disposal. This would have looked DRASTICALLY different only 10 years ago.

Spring Core starts April 27. Classes will meet for about an hour, twice a week, and you’ll be able to participate entirely on your phone with an internet connection. Isabel, Adam, and Lindsey have created three *BRAND NEW* photos sessions for you and I’m really excited to put them out in the (virtual) world. Join us for a shared and imperfect experience to pave the way towards a more face-to-face one in the near future.

* APRIL 27-MAY 21 * PAY WHAT YOU CAN * YOU JUST NEED A PHONE *

LONELINESS BELONGS TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER w/ Isabel
Loneliness and isolation are normal responses to our current situation. How can we use those feelings as creative fuel and make photos that reflect this? We'll look at three contemporary artists who all deal with the theme of loneliness and isolation and create work inspired by them and our own experiences.

STORYTELLING THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY w/Adam
Along our journey together, we will practice storytelling with images. Expect to observe the world -- however, big or small -- and yourself through the lens. Come with curiosity. You have all the tools you need.

STOP MOTION ANIMATION ON YOUR PHONE W/ Lindsey
This class will explore the world of moving images, frames per second, and anthropomorphic characters. We will first find foundation in light, design, and storytelling before we add on new techniques to move the picture.
