All Youth in Focus programs are free, and we provide free bus passes if needed. All supplies and equipment are provided. We are committed to equitable arts access for ALL youth.

Portraits, Lighting, and Post! w/Ehsaan Taeb
Interested in professional photography, but don’t know where to start? Together with a community of creative youth artists, you’ll get the professional support and skills you need! You will learn the core concepts of lighting. Including - natural vs artificial lighting, using strobes, modifiers, and gels. We will work with different backdrops and discover good professional studio practices. Finally, you will edit your images using Lightroom and Photoshop to achieve your creative vision!
Beginning/Intermediate Darkroom w/ bryn mooney
This class is for both beginning and intermediate darkroom skill levels! You will learn how to photograph, develop, and print black-and-white film. You will work on an artistic theme throughout the course, culminating in two final prints that work as a series. Both levels will use either point-and-shoot, digital film cameras, or metal-bodied mechanical cameras. All youth will present their work in a final show, with the community invited!
Photojournalism 101 w/Chloe Collyer
Many great photographers start as photojournalists. Learn the technical foundations, ethical limits, and interview skills of a working photojournalist! Set yourself up for success as a great photographer. Add audio recordings and written samples to your photos to create a multimedia approach to storytelling. We will be visiting archives and publishing a full photo story in Seattle’s local newspaper.
Beginning Darkroom w/Cennady Coleman
Learn how to photograph, develop, and print black-and-white film with Cennady! Become versed in using a film camera, a light meter, and various composition techniques. Dig into hands-on techniques for making photograms, small and medium-sized prints, and adjusting contrast and brightness. We will be learning the rules of the darkroom and then breaking them!
