2024 Cohort Session Three

Portfolio and Job Readiness: Web development, independent studies, and portfolio refinement

my name is Sophia, i’m 17 and i’m a junior at Garfield highschool.

this quarter i’ve learned about leading lines, and in a lot of my art i’ve incorporated it in a lot of my art. i’ve also learned about high and low shutter speeds. i’ve loved using low shutter speeds because i love my photos looking blurry and almost nostalgic.

at youth in focus i loved all the support and the non judgmental staff it was just such an amazing experience all together

for my first photo i used leading lines and a do not feed the pigeons sign when getting off the train, it was a rainy day and i thought the sign and everything in the background was perfectly placed.

my second photo i was on the patio of this building and took photos of the traffic and i thought the photo was so pretty. it reminded me of the central district before gentrification and it reminded me of my childhood

thank you

In Practice: Applying photography knowledge to build and create in a working photo studio

My name is Sophia B. i’m a junior at Garfield high school and I’m from Seattle, Washington.

when starting my obsession with film and photography i signed up for film classes and took them throughout my entire freshman year. when taking my videos and photos i liked to take pictures of buildings and street photography or anything with pink and being super cutesy i loved. when i was younger i loved watching Tyler the Creator in loiter squad and watching those super cool skateboarding videos on Disney XD and MTV.

watching Tyler the Creators music videos really got me into art, photography, and film just because of how amazingly the videos were put together and i think that’s what made me really want to try and make something as beautiful as that.

i really started to feel better about myself when getting cute comments on my posts about my photography and that’s when i really started getting into art.

Camera and Digital Editing Fundamentals: Elements of Design, Photography, Photoshop, and Intro to Graphic Design

Dark and mysterious, first glance, colors, expression, dreams, engaging, contrast, texture, brightness, warm, vintage, fun, abstract, all words my classmates used to describe my art.

These Masks three in a row are so similar yet so different, all amazingly handcrafted for different meaning within each of them. The fuzziness and smoothness is cozy in a way.

The rainbowness and haziness of this character sitting all lonesome is so deep yet so colorful, the craziness but somehow put together makes you think about how you should be yourself and still be colorful while lighting up the world with your presence of being there.

The CCC was amazing this quarter and I've loved coming to every class, being here with other artists my age is so cool. Realizing how we’re similar but so so different when it comes to art, Art is one umbrella but has so many different branches that helps someone describe themself that you’re unable to see from just glancing at them.

Life is gorgeous, why don't you live it?
